Infrared Light
LuxWaves uses far infrared light emitting diodes (LEDs) because infrared penetrates more deeply into the body and works better than other wavelengths of light. While we cannot see infrared light, our bodies respond to infrared with increased circulation and reduced pain.
light has a systemic effect on the entire body. Studies have shown hormone balance, thyroid
health, and testosterone production can be effected by the application of light.
Emerging research is showing positive results with hormonal balance, thyroid health,
testosterone production, and overall sex hormone levels. Also, the clinical results point to
positive reactions with estradiol, progesterone, and DHEA.
Bristlecone Medical Inc. using Joovv Devices are doing studies on the hormonal effects of light.
They are evaluating how PBM treatments and a ketogenic diet affect men and women’s
hormonal health. The results show positive gains for both men and women. Women were seen
to have increased levels of progesterone, DHEA, and estradiol. DHEA is vital for synthesizing sex
hormones and producing progesterone, estrogen, and testosterone. The women on the keto
diet saw the most significant upregulation in estradiol production, almost a 20% increase.
Improved testosterone was seen in adult men in both standard diets and experimental keto
diet groups. The Bristlecone-Joovv study saw increases in their testosterone levels after
consistent, daily, red light therapy treatments. Men, who received light therapy, saw healthy
increases in their T-levels in the range of 25% to 45% increases. But the men, who did both light
therapy and ate the keto diet, saw even larger increases doubling their free testosterone levels.
A randomized, placebo-controlled pilot study was conducted by the University of Siena in Italy
in 2016 analyzing 38 men with low testosterone levels. One group of men received red light
therapy treatments in the mornings, while the other group did not receive light therapy at all.
In addition to higher sexual satisfaction, the men in the group treated with light therapy saw
their testosterone levels rise significantly. The control group did not see testosterone rises, but
the active light therapy group showed a huge increase (from about 2.1 ng/ml to 3.6 ng/ml in
just two weeks). There are now several articles that have been published in men’s health
magazines that talk about successful results from people using red light to naturally raise
testosterone levels.
The thyroid is an endocrine gland with a hugely important job. It secretes the hormones
responsible for metabolism and protein synthesis. However, a full 6% of the population suffers
from hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid). Conventional treatments for thyroid conditions
include medication, surgery, and radioiodine therapy. In some cases, an individual has to take
thyroid medication throughout their entire life to continue to “manage” their hormone levels.
Some of these drugs come with horrible side effects like hair loss, abnormal heartbeat, cramps,
insomnia, weight loss or gain, vomiting, and many others. Suffice to say, it’s little wonder why
people with thyroid conditions would be looking for natural alternatives.
In recent clinical research, PBM shows great potential to be a natural and effective treatment
option for some thyroid conditions and their symptoms. A Brazilian research team conducted a
3-year, randomized, placebo-controlled trial. After their course of LED light treatments,
patients’ need for the common thyroid drug declined, and in some cases went away entirely.
The researchers, based at the University of Sao Paulo Medical School, have published a series of
journal articles outlining their findings, which included a 9-month follow up with all patients.
Most encouraging of all, 47% of the participants in the light therapy treatment group no longer
needed to take any pharmaceutical drugs.
There was also a decline in levels of thyroid peroxidase, which are antibodies indicating an
autoimmune problem. Using color Doppler ultrasounds, researchers found that light therapy
treatments led to higher rates of vascularization of the thyroid lobes. Another study using
Doppler equipment Moor Instruments/Anodyne, has been shown to increase local circulation
by up to 3000% percent shortly after PBM treatment.
